Myrtle Corbin was born in Lincoln County, Tennessee in 1868. Her condition was unusual in that it was not technically a parasitic twin, but known as complete dipygus—born with a fully duplicated lower body. This resulted from her body axis splitting as it developed.
She had two separate pelvises side by side from the waist down and four legs, the smaller two being paired with each outer leg. The smaller were too weak for walking, but she had control over them and could move them independently.
She also had two sets of fully functioning reproductive organs. At age 19, she married a doctor named Clinton Bicknell and they had five children together. It is said that three of them were born from one side of her body, and the remaining two from the other.
